Signs Your Kids Might Have Vision Problems

Signs Your Kids Might Have Vision Problems

Children who have vision problems don't always realize something is wrong because as far as they know, what they're experiencing is "normal." Parents, teachers, and other adults need to be able to spot the signs that a child is having issues with their eyesight so that the child can get the help he needs. Sometimes, the problem is discovered during a routine eye exam, but there are ways to tell outside of an optometrist's office. We at University Eye Associates in Charlotte, NC, and Davidson, NC, are here to help you know what to look for.

Help from a Pediatric Optometrist

Parents don't always realize that it may be a good idea to have their child's vision evaluated early A pediatric optometrist can evaluate your child’s eyes and determine if there are any vision issues that may not be noticeable.

Signs to Watch for

If you haven't had your child's sight evaluated, take a look at how your child is acting. If he tends to squint a lot, hold books very close to his face, or rub his eyes a lot, something may be going on with his vision. Other signs aren't so clear. For example, if the child has difficulty focusing for a long period of time, it may be vision related rather than just an attention disorder.
