Signs Your Child May Have Vision Problems
It may not be immediately evident when your child has vision problems. Given the importance of their eye health, though, University Eye Associates, located in Charlotte and Davidson, wants you to become aware of some signs that should prompt you to schedule an appointment with an optometrist.
Four Signs Your Children May Need Pediatric Eye Care
While all children will likely display the following signs at some point in their lives, a pattern of these symptoms warrants further exploration. Because your child’s eye health is important to their overall development, it's important to have their vision examined regularly.
1. Itchy Eyes
There are many possible reasons your children may have itchy eyes including allergies. This can make it easy to dismiss this symptom as being unimportant. However, itchy eyes can also be a sign that your child needs their vision corrected.
2. Red or Pink Eyes
Red or pink eyes are often attributed to being tired. However, this is also a classic sign of irritation. If your child is getting plenty of sleep and continues to have red or pink eyes, scheduling a visit with an optometrist is a good idea.
3. Irritation
Irritation often results in teary eyes or excessive blinking. You also may notice that your children’s eyes are red or pink. Itchy eyes can also be the result of some type of irritation.
4. Squinting
If you notice your child squinting when they are trying to read, while trying to see something in the distance, or if you see them doing it on a regular basis, it can be a sign that they have an undiagnosed vision problem. Squinting can also be a sign that the treatment for a vision problem needs to be adjusted.
