Choosing the Right Prescription Sunglasses

Choosing the Right Prescription Sunglasses

Here in Charlotte, we have plenty of bright, sunny weather. While that makes this a great place to live, it also means there are significant UV rays that can damage your eyes. The right prescription sunglasses are needed to protect your delicate vision. How can you find the right pair? Our opticians at University Eye Associates have some advice.

UVA and UVB Blockage

Your sunglasses should block between 99% and 100% of UVA and UVB rays. The amount of protection is not related to the color of your lenses, so you can choose any shade you like. Polarized lenses can be a great option in reducing glare as well.

Design and Fit

Your sunglasses should align with your brow and sit somewhat close to (but not touching) your face. Choose frames that feel comfortable and are perfectly sized for your face. Remember that an optician may need to make adjustments for you to have the perfect fit.

Lenses

Wraparound lenses will provide additional protection from UV rays as well as flying sand or debris. Accordingly, we often recommend them for our patients who spend a great deal of time outdoors.

You’ll find wraparound lenses in a variety of materials, including plastic, polycarbonate, and high index. The one you choose will depend upon the amount of weight and impact resistance that you prefer. One of our opticians will assist you with different lenses so that you can compare them.

High Quality Prescription Sunglasses

The right sunglasses should provide adequate eye protection as well as vision correction if needed. If you are a contact lens wearer, be sure to wear quality sunglasses without a prescription.

At University Eye Associates, we offer a variety of options for those in and around Charlotte, Davidson, and Harrisburg (Rocky River). Visit one of our locations to view our collection of attractive, high-quality frames and lenses.
