When To See an Optometrist

When to See an Optometrist

You should have an eye exam every year, but many people don’t have them that regularly. If it’s been a while since you have had an eye exam in Charlotte, Harrisburg (Rocky River), or Davidson and you are experiencing these signs, it’s time for a visit to the optometrist.

Frequent Headaches

Changes in your ability to see happen slowly and can easily progress unnoticed. Sometimes, this process can even take years. If you have been experiencing headaches, this could mean that your eyesight is getting worse, even if you haven’t noticed it yet.

You Have Pain or Fatigue in Your Eye

Fatigue or eye pain doesn’t necessarily mean your vision is getting worse, but it could be a symptom. If you have normal eye movement and pain or if you have pain for more than a few days in a row that you aren’t able to attribute to allergies or lack of sleep, make an appointment at an optometry clinic.

You Have Abnormal Vision Issues Such as Blurry Vision

If your vision starts to get blurry, chances are your eyesight could be getting worse. If you see tiny shadows or flashes of light, this could be a symptom of something more urgent, such as a full retinal detachment or a tear. Seek immediate medical attention if you have symptoms that are more than just blurry vision.

You Are Frequently Squinting

Squinting is one of the most common symptoms of your eyesight getting worse and it’s one of the most important symptoms to pay attention to. If you find yourself squinting when watching television, looking at your computer, or reading books then schedule an eye exam.

Dry Eyes

If your eyes feel sore, you may have dry eye syndrome. You can get lubricating eye drops from the pharmacy and treat this on your own but if the condition doesn’t improve then you want to follow up with an optometrist for the best treatment.
