How to Prepare For An Eye Exam

If it’s time for your eye exam, you are likely wondering what to expect when you meet with an optometrist. The first step to receiving an eye exam if you live in or around Charlotte, Davidson, or Harrisburg (Rocky River) is to contact University Eye Associates. Our eye doctors have gathered a few steps you can take in preparation for your eye examination.

Gather Necessary Paperwork

When you attend an appointment at one of our locations, you will need to provide our optometrist with a bit of information about yourself. If you are a new patient, you can visit our Patient Center on this website and find “New Patient Forms.” Completing this information online, in advance of your appointment, can make your visit more efficient. Sharing your medical and vision history will be important as the doctor assesses your eye health. If you have insurance, please bring both your medical and your vision cards. Your vision plan generally covers “medical” exams. For example, if you’ve experienced vision loss, floaters, dry eyes, allergies, infections, eye disease, or need an eye exam for complications from diabetes… your exam will be considered “medical.”

Please bring any glasses that you’ve been wearing and information about your contact lenses if you wear them. Bringing your most recent prescription or contact lens boxes will provide our optometrists with important history.

Know What You Want From The Exam

Some people make appointments for an eye exam to check on their eye health, while others do it so that they can obtain new eyeglasses or contact lenses. If you have any concerns regarding your vision, be sure to inform our optometrist at the beginning of the appointment. We will walk you through the tests that are used to check your vision and eye health. We will also provide a vision screening to determine your prescription strength if you need vision correction.
